Grand Opening Celebration of the
St. Paul-Changsha China Friendship Garden

Join Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter and St. Paul’s Sister-City Changsha delegates as they lead the Grand Opening of the St. Paul-Changsha China Friendship Garden of Whispering Willows and Flowing Waters at Phalen Park (also known as Liu Ming Yuan | 柳明園 and LUB VAJ PHOOJ YW).
10:00am - Dragon Festival Opens at Boat launch area.
10:15am - From Boat Launch Area: Public Parade with the Mayor and Delegation: Dragon Dance to Xiang Jiang Pavilion and Lion Dance to Amphitheater Stage.
10:30am – Grand Opening & Ribbon cutting at Xiang Jiang Pavilion with cultural performances.
11:00am to 1:00pm – Family-friendly cultural activities at the Xiang Jiang Pavilion: Calligraphy, Chinese and Hmong Cultural demonstrations, Chinese painting, and have your photo taken in pop-up characters from the Dragon Festival Story!!
Noon - Cultural performances at the amphitheater stage (next to the “Meditation” sculpture by Changsha Master Lei Yixin.)
Poetry Contest. Submit a poem to the First Annual Qu Yuan Poetry Contest. Winner will read winning poem during the Grand Opening at the Xiang Jiang Pavilion. June 10, 2019 submission deadline.
